Adler and his team find the wounded Bell, take him back to the CIA, and, through the use of drugs and other mind manipulation techniques, rewire Bell’s brain into believing he is a member of the CIA who has long been involved with hunting down Perseus. Bell is badly wounded in what is actually the first mission of Black Ops Cold War, when he is betrayed by another Peresus member. Needing to know where the nukes will be launched from and seeing no other option to stop nuclear Armageddon, Adler reveals the truth to the player - Bell is, or was, a member of Perseus. Perseus explains his plan to take control of the United States’ “Project Greenlight” arsenal of nuclear weapons and detonate them from a location called Solovetsky.īell awakens from his dream with Adler and the rest of the CIA team hovering over him. It becomes clear that Perseus is not simply a person but an entire organization. Adler is obsessed with Bell seeing what is on the other side of a particular red door, one that continues to elude the player.Įventually, Black Ops Cold War players make their way through the red door and into a bunker, where a meeting with Perseus and his followers is taking place. Black Ops Cold War players can choose to follow Adler’s orders or not, but it becomes clear through increasingly bizarre encounters that something is wrong. CIA handler Adler, who players have partnered with throughout the game, begins speaking to the player, “recounting” the events of what happened and telling Bell where to go and what happened next. “Break on Through” finds players put into a drug-induced “memory.” In the memory, Bell finds himself in Vietnam attempting to track down clues to the location of the game’s villain, the enigmatic Perseus.
